John Errico
Program:
Apprentice Researchers
Year:
2010
Hi, My name is John Errico, I go to San Marcos High School, and during my time in Apprentice Researchers I studied proton exchange membrane fuel cells. Specifically, I studied ways to optimize them. Right now, they are incredibly expensive to make, due to platinum being the catalyst for the reaction. I used Electrochemical methods of depositing platinum for use as the catalyst, trying to optimize the settings to create extremely small nano scale platinum particles, usually in the 1-3 nanometer range. I hope to attend the University of California at Berkeley, and I want to major in chemistry. Hopefully, after i have done that I'd like to take a long trip around the world, hopefully to all 6 of the colonized continents, to find out what life is really like outside the USA.
