I have swapped living in the small inland town of Arbuckle, CA,  for living on the beach in Santa Barbara where I am currently a junior studying biology at UCSB.  Outside of my studies and working with students in LEAPS, I enjoy taking advantage of the beautiful area that is Santa Barbara by doing many things outdoors including but not limited to: skydiving, playing basketball and running (currently training for a marathon!).  After graduating I hope to go to medical school and become a pediatrician.

Tyler Shropshire - Clubs Coordinator and Graduate Student in the Chemical EngiTyler Shropshireneering Department.
Following 5 glorious years studying at the University of Washington in Seattle where I received degrees in both biochemistry and Spanish, I came to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UCSB to pursue my Ph.D.  My research focus for my Ph.D. revolves around trying to better understand the molecular basis of human disease, most notably ovarian cancer and Alzheimer's disease.  When I'm not in my goggles and lab coat, I enjoy cycling around Santa Barbara and Montecito, going to live sporting events (Go Blazers/Seahawks/Mariners!), and eating strawberry rhubarb pie.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, I later moved to sunny San Diego, California,  where I grew up.  I am currently a junior at the UCSB working towards a degree in pharmacology. After graduation I hope to attend pharmacy school.  In my free time I like playing field hockey and am actually captain of the club team at UCSB.   I also enjoy hanging out with friends, staying as active as possible outside of field hockey, and watching my favorite professional sports teams, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia Phillies!
